The elk are in their annual rut now in Estes Park Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park. This is one of the few places in the country, if not the world, to see elk up close while in the rut. They have been protected for so long in Estes that they are comfortable around people, to a certain extent. Low light (they are most active at dawn and dusk) and constantly moving animals led to some noisy, less than ideally sharp photos, but it was fun and that’s what matters most. Enjoy.
